In Their Own Words: Salvation Army
Salvation Army provides a food pantry, emergency family shelter, Rapid Re-Housing program, Permanent Supportive Housing Program, and Utilities Assistance Program, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance.
Everything changed due to the pandemic. Case management became virtual as we saw an increase in demand, including from new clients. We lost staff who were too scared to be here or too medically unstable to stay. We also lost a cook and had to turn to catering services for five months.
The grant supported our food pantry and emergency shelter meals. Without it, we wouldn’t have been able to fund the additional meals we needed in the shelter or serve the increased demand in our food pantry. Homelessness and hunger can happen to anybody. Thanks to the COVID-19 Response Fund, we were able to house, serve, and feed more people. It is necessary work and we appreciate the support.
